I bought mine yesterday and set it up.I wanted to try the wireless connection first.after entering the network details into the 'network' 'wireless i' and 'wireless ii' i was able to get a wireless connection established using DHCP (blue wireless object). On my PC I then setup a share with a directory name and share name less than 12 chars. My router can see a new DHCP device attached. But when I click the OK button on the remote control over the blue wireless object it comes up with 'please wait' and then 5 secs or so later says 'no device is connected'.

Do i need to do something else on my PC to allow the mg-350hd to see it and its share? I have WEP 64bit security setup. I've turned off my firewall to try and help but to no avail. Wireless strength on mg-350hd is 80% and I have upgraded firmware to 1.09.Anxious to get wireless connection working!i got mine working. I can access any files on my computer and watch it on TV.i did have problems with it before, but i figured out how u have to enter the network key before you can actually gain access to any of the computers.

Mediagate

SO make sure to configure your WEP settings, wireless II.Wireless II is securitywireless I is when you are scanning for wireless devices. So cliffnotes:wireless I - scanwireless II - enter your network keyhope that helps. I saw them for sale at Hardly Normals at Moore Park store, sydney.

Lots of info on USA forum sites. I have the Sarotech, abigs DVP-570HD. Much better quality, chip set and actual connetcions, not swiss army knife 4 in 1 types like offerings. No Wi-Fi, don't care, USB 2.0 is fast enough to load 5.avi or.iso full lenght movies faster than stuffing around trying to send via air.

Mediagate Mg-350 Manual

Component out is great, true 1920 x 1080i, not upscaling like most others. Optical out works great, coax is there too. Has s-Video,DVI too.

FM transmiter built in. DTS passthrough. Supports FAT & NTFS. Has 10/100 LAN built in. Takes a 3.5' IDE HDD. Uses a standard kettel cord power inlet.

Has a nice blue lit LCD screen. On screen is great to use. Remote is great and you don't have to have exact line of sight to use. Uses latest Sigma EM8621 chipset. Runs MPEG1/2/4, DIVX, XVID, WMV9,.dat, mpg, vob, mp4, ast, tp, ito, smi, smil, sub, srt, aac, wav, ac3, mp3, m3u, JPG, BMP & txt.!!! Even runs a nice quite fan in a beautufully finsihed box, with stand. Top notch piece of kit.I paid $400 for it.So why is the Sarotech better than the MG350HD??

It uses the same chipset I thought, and definitely plays HD files (including WMV HD samples I have downloaded), also ISO, VOB etc, thru USB2 or LAN. The MG350HD also takes a 3.5' HDD and has no fan, and is about $110.00 more???? I can record SDTV or HDTV to my PC and play them back thru the MG350HD to my TV. The box has component, SVHS and composite connectors, and also a DVI port, so what 4 in 1 connectors are you talking about. I'm looking for a 2nd HD NMP, so if the Sarotech is so much better, convince me and I may buy one one, but it has to be over a $100 better!!!

Sorry, I think the last thing you need is more 'sales men' chat in your ear.I think they have done enough damage.' Your profile'Pioneer SH02 speakers.? (amazing timbre no doubt?)Palsonic 76WSHD CRT TV.?Singer SGW68TV 66cm WSTV.? (don't they make sewing machines?)Magnavox VCR.?

(bad car stereos in the 80's?)PS.Stay out of JB HIFi they're are better brands in better stores. Use the web wisely, LukeMy profile is way out of date and has nothing to do with the questions asked in my previous post (except for my poor grammer, I meant the MG350HD is $110.00 cheaper than the Sarotech). I don't use my Pioneer system for music, only TV and HT really, and it fits the small room. So my questions still stand, can you comment on why the Sarotech unit is better than the MG350HD, as I want to buy another HD NMP and like these type of units.FYI, the Singer looks fantastic on a SD PVR (Digicrystal) and has performed flawlessly for about 5 years, its used in the bedroom. The internals including CRT tube are all Philips, and has excellent picture quality and contrast etc. The VCR's are only used to copy home made VCR tapes from a while ago for friends etc.

I also have a very good JVC unit and a Sony for playing back on my two HD TV's. I may update my profile as most of the gear there is gone.but its not relevent to any of the questions asked. So I look forward to a detaile response on why the Sarotech unit is so much better than the MG350 HD, I'm also considering the MVIX760HD(I think that is the designation and also look forward to reviews etc so I can make a choice). It is the Mediagate MG-350HD any help in resolving it would be great. I read on another post that it requires 'guest' to access the shared workstation and that there may be a privilede set restricting the guest user. Not sureI use a MG350HD on a wired cat5 network, through a switch, and all I do is enable sharing on the HDD or partitions that I want it to read. I also use static ip adresses, and it all works fine.

The shared folders/HDD/partition has everyone allowable access and allowed to change files etc set. The MG350HD see's both PC's on my network, all through Zonealarm firewall. So why is the Sarotech better than the MG350HD??

It uses the same chipset I thought, and definitely plays HD files (including WMV HD samples I have downloaded), also ISO, VOB etc, thru USB2 or LAN. The MG350HD also takes a 3.5' HDD and has no fan, and is about $110.00 more???? I can record SDTV or HDTV to my PC and play them back thru the MG350HD to my TV. I'm looking for a 2nd HD NMP, so if the Sarotech is so much better, convince me and I may buy one one, but it has to be over a $100 better!!!I do have the Sarotech and I may regret not buying the Mediagate as it has more features for $80 less.I have been unable to set it up on my network, the FM broadcaster is useless and would swap that for wireless anyday. Its certainly great quality and have played up to 1080i files from it with great clarity. Though it can be configured for 1080p it will not play that size or 'downsize' to 1080i and pump out like its been claimed the Mediagate does.

As with the Mediagate there is no sound on some files. Been waiting for months for new firmware to appear on web site.Surround Sound is fine.

Not trying to be a smart alec, but have you read the manual? There are quite specific instructions on how to share out folders from page 31 onwards. I assume you're using XP? I am and have no issues. Thanks and have read the manual its online for others at. I thought that the guest account may have been retricted by local policy of the workstation sharing the files which may account for why I could not read them (and yes I have enabled the account!).

Canon Mg 350

I have not been able to find any settings with regard to this but have read in other threads it may be the cause. Not sure what else it could be. Or if anyone knows of local policy settings that would retrict access by guest. Edited January 3, 2007 by mattyp.

I don't see why you would regret buying a better device? I spent many many hours on USA sites reading about problems, they're were/are many, that users of the HD Mediagate were having and endless patches being downloaded and trialed, only to find something that was working now doesn't!!

And I thought bugger it, I sent an email to Sarotech asking for a referral to a local Aust agent. I got a very nice and well written email back from them directing me to a company in Melb. I also received a couple of hours later an email from this company, my details were passed to them. I negotiated a Red DVP-570HD delivered for $420.00, advertised at $600.00 I had a spare 300Gb 7200rpm drive, loaded it into the beautiful all aluminum, unlike Mediagate, box and used the blue lite LCD screen to navigate through the menus, Mediagate has?, and set it up in no time. I have loaded many types of video and even audio formats into it.

It has never failed and played up EVER! Absolutely faultless. Wi-Fi doesn't bother me, I don't want to wait an hour to load what I can in 15mins via USB. The remote is awesome, works at all angles and has some great features, like a '5min skip' back and forth keys, 'next' key that will skip to the next/prev.avi file, handy if you have a large collection of episodes and can't remember which one you have seen and don't need to go back to the main menu to change files. Great on screen displays and menus, all of which you can modify. The fan, yes it has a fan to keep the drive cool, is very quite.

The FM is for the car, it is analog FM signal quality because it's FM? The front USB port lets me watch video from a 2.5' 60Gb HDD I have.I'm at a loss to see what the poorer cousin does better??I'm not being critical, but why is the Sarotch $120.00 better, the MG350HD does all that you listed, but does not have a FM tuner or display on the unit. As I stated before, I just want a HD video NMP, using wired Cat 5 ethernet, and the MG350HD does all this, and as all these players use the same chipset (AFAIK), the capabilities are similar, they will play the same mpeg/dvix/xvid files etc. The MG350HD has the next/prev file keys etc, plays next file automatically if required, has a USB port for devices, and has a TV output key that allows the output resolution to be scrolled through to see a menu and then enter the setup menu, which I have done many times. I'm looking for another HD NMP, but still cannot get any useful comparison between units ( e.g.

MG350HD, MVIX760, Sarotech 570, Ziova CS510??). I spent a lot of time researching with the Yanks on here, pretty amazing site/forum. We have a long way to go, even though ours is a great site/forum.' I may regret it.' I agree with you that it looks better than the Mediagate - personal opinion.

As regards the remote functions I haven't really compared but am impressed though it has more than some unnecessary buttons. I bought the black unit and I installed a 300g HDD because the external USB doesn't seem to be USB V2. At all as there are streaming problems thru it.I have read on some USA forums after I purchased the thing that the device was best left alone because of poor support from the manufacturer (inc. Specs and promo only on web page), difficulties in setting up and the promise of things to come which never have.

Having also the Momitsu and Neuston these were/are a dream to set up and install on the network, unlike the Sarotech. The external LCD is not a bad idea and in fact necessary when setting up the screen and the FM transmitter useful if you want to play mp3s - now who on this forum plays mp3s?!!! - in your car but I am interested in BETTER BASIC FUNCTIONALITY and SUPPORT which the Mediagate has. Looks like this half a.d job is going the way of the Zensonic 500 another problem being they are trying to cater for the kiddy and HD market at the same time. The links you supplied don't lead to anythng on the Sarotech, but plenty on the Mediagate etc.

'The links you supplied don't lead to anythng on the Sarotech, but plenty on the Mediagate etc.' That is why I put it up, there were many complaining about the MG etc and being tired of trying various patches. So far I have had nothing ever go wrong with mine. That's all I was saying. There is no new version or patch to down load maybe because it doesn't need it?all discussion ceased on the Sarotech in September when after the whinges someone pointed out there was no support.Looks like the Mediagate is a work in progress including a recent firmware upgrade that the Sarotech could do with. Not only to fix lack of sound in some formats but intermittent no surround sound on same files. I can't say I need an update/upgrade/patch.nothing I have loaded into it has failed yet?

I use uTorrent and download about 12 - 18Gb a month of various formats and all work, sound via optic is great, video via component is great. Maybe you got a dud?its a dud if they don't support it and update f/w. And so far that is the case. All else makes it much the same as the Mediagate but without a recent f/w update and 30% dearer and FM lieu wifi.

Maybe its meant for the kiddies when pappa aint using it?
