I have a laptop running Win 7 Pro 64 which came with a OEM theme. Part of the theme was a background for the logon screen and a OEM logo in place of the usual default user profile icon.

Counter strike patch v23. I was able to swap out the background by either running thewindows display repair or updating the background images in the OEM directory (C:WindowsSystem32oobeinfobackgrounds). I have not however, been able to replace the user icon. I have updated my user icon via Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUserAccounts and my updated icon shows up on the Start Menu but still not the login screen. I tried searching for the image and I tried finding a registry entry but have had no luck.

I also tried contacting the OEM but they couldn't figure it out either. Thesupport person I was working with seemed to think the login screen icon should have change when I updated my user icon. So I am not sure if their software has a bug or if the support person didn't know what he was talking about. But there has to be someconfiguration or registry key that fix it. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for the response, however I think perhaps you either didn't understand my post or didn't fully read it. I am not having an issue with changing the logon screen background. I am having trouble getting the OEM User Icon to go away on the Logon screen(the icon that defaults to the Sun Flower or whatever), even though I have updated my user account to have a different user icon.Give my original post another read and if there is anything I can clarify please let me know. I would upload a screen shot but this forum is pretty limited.

Oem

Perhaps I will post it somewhere else and link it. Hi AmichWin,You should be able to remove the OEM branding by using the following command Rundll32 IedkCS32.dll, BrandCleanInstallStubs from the Run dialogue box. To get to the Run dialogue box, click the Start button and type Run into the search box.For further details see this link from my website:Additionally if you are wanting to get rid of any branding that appears before the windows log-on screen, i.e., any branding that appears when you initially boot your PC then this can usually be shut off via the BIOS. For example when I switch my PC on thefirst thing I see is a large red screen with PB (for Packard Bell) staring back at me.

By editing the BIOS I can remove this branding so that when I boot up I simply get a black screen with the details of what is loading along with the memory check etc. Howyou switch this off will vary depending upon your BIOS.This forum post is my own opinion and does not necessarily reflect the opinion or view of Microsoft, it's employees, or other MVPs. That is a little closer but this article is referring to changing the OEM image that is displayed on the system window which I am not really concerned about.I actually have come across the Registry Key mentioned in that post (HKEYLOCALMACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion OEMInformation) which lead me to this directory C:WindowsSystem32oem.

Unfortunately none of the images in thisdirectory match the image used as the login icon in my screen shot above. Thanks though. Hi AMichWin,On my website article for adding Logo and Company Support information I state that (step 2) the company logo should be saved as a.bmp file.

Have you tried using the Windows Search facility to search for.bmp file extensions on your system? Maybe that willthrow up the relevant Dell logo you are looking for. Once you have located the.bmp file you can make the necessary alterations in the OEMInformation to remove the logo. This forum post is my own opinion and does not necessarily reflect the opinion or view of Microsoft, it's employees, or other MVPs.
