The site may be down here and there and upon completion will have an entirely new look for a few days. Please bare with us while we do this! OK guys a bit off topic for the cast boolit section but on topic for military rifles.I have a swede sling for the m96 and a friend has the same sling for a m38.

I have searched high and low for the proper mounting of the sling and I see different pictures on many sites. I have played with the sling and I think I have come up with the proper mounting techniques if you actually want to use it as a sling should be used, and that is not only as a carry handle. But I wanted to ask if you guys could submit pictures of what you think is the proper mounting of the sling.Specifically where did the swiss put the spring steel clip and the strap routing. Also just to let others know SAMCO sends out junk. The sling my friend received was a., so badly weathered and dried out it is unusable. We will salvage the hardware and build a new strap, will also make it longer so you will not have to disconnect the bottom end to use it.Anyway let me see what you got. Here is a link that shows what the sling looks like as delivered.

One picture in the english conversion of the m96 manual shows the loop and buckle on the butt swivel. My question is how would you use the loop and keeper to use the sling properly. It is just a pet peave so bear with me, if you are displaying period items you should have things setup correctly. What I think you're asking is how to use the Swedish military sling like the US Model 1907 sling for target shooting.

Swedish Mauser Parts

The answer is you can't. Its just not made to be used in that manner. You say 'use the sling properly'. If what you mean is the correct way to mount it then here it is.Disregard any other ways you see to properly mount a sling on a Swedish Mauser.

These two photos show the correct and proper sling attachment. (took me forever to find these on my harddrive). For target shooting the world's most interesting sling is the Swedish m/41b sniper sling. Watch fleabay: $100-150.There were civilian target slings used on the Swedish Mauser that were very similar to the m/41b sniper sling. The m/41b sling is much better overall.Dutch.

I have several Soldatinstruktion manuals from 1939 to 1989. Its the basic soldier manual that every Swedish soldier is issued.I just paged through several of them and there's no shooting training at all in these manuals. There is plenty of firearm related information but not marksmanship. So I can't say if using the hasty sling was included in training. On my rifles and not just the m/96 I keep the slings adjusted for just that right combination of hasty use and carrying across the back diagonally. But I don't think I've ever seen a picture of a Swedish soldier using the hasty sling method.Dutch.
